What is 3D Secure?

This is an extra layer of protection to help prevent fraud in online payments. This additional security layer was created by Visa and MasterCard and is respectively called Verified by Visa and MasterCard Secure Code, and it works with all payments' moods either the PopUp or Redirect.

If a customer’s card has 3D Secure enabled, it will follow the process below whenever an online payment is made using that card:

  1. The customer enters their card information in the payment form

  2. The customer is directed to the 3D Secure page where they need to verify they are the cardholder with a one-time password (OTP) that they receive on their phone or email

  3. If the OTP is entered correctly, the card details are entered correctly and there are enough funds in their bank account, the payment is successful.

Some customers may not have 3D Secure enabled and so would bypass this extra layer of protection when making a payment on your website or mobile app.
