How Does Apple Pay Work?

Modified on Wed, 12 Aug at 3:25 PM

Apple Pay offers a seamless and secure checkout experience for customers using Apple devices. Tap supports Apple Pay for merchants operating in specific regions and currencies.

Requirements to display the Apple Pay button

To ensure Apple Pay appears at checkout, make sure:

From the merchant side:

For websites:

  • Live Mode is mandatory

Apple Pay will not appear in Test Mode — make sure your environment is set to Live.

  • Use Redirect Checkout Mode

Apple Pay is only supported on Redirect Mode.

If you’re using Popup Mode, Apple Pay will not be available.

For mobile apps:

  • Apple Pay must also be tested in Live Mode — it won’t function in Test Mode.

  • The Redirect/Popup setting does not apply to mobile apps.

  • Integration should be done using Tap’s iOS SDK, following the Apple Pay setup steps provided by our team.

From the customer side:

  • They are using an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch).

  • They are browsing via the Safari browser.

  • They have a valid card saved in their Apple Wallet (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Mada, or Benefit).

Supported regions and currencies

  • Countries:

    • Kuwait

    • Saudi Arabia

    • UAE

    • Bahrain

    • Qatar

    • Oman

  • Currencies:

    • KWD, SAR, AED, BHD, QAR, OMR
